Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO): There are three active youth groups within the congregation: Elementary, Middle School and Senior High. Youth Ministry is one of the shared ministries within the DuBois Area Cooperative Lutheran Ministry.
The Elementary LYO includes children from third through fifth grades. This group meets during the school year for fellowship and activities. Activities may include game night, bowling, movie night or roller skating. The year usually concludes with a trip to an amusement park in the summer.
The chief purpose of the Middle School LYO is fellowship time together since middle school youth (6th, 7th & 8th grades) are required to perform service projects through catechism. Their events may include a lock-in, bowling, swimming and the Allegheny Synod Junior High Events. Middle School LYO also usually plans a summer outing to an amusement park or places like Carnegie Science Center.
The youth in grades 9-12 are invited to join the Senior High LYO. The group meets monthly for various fellowship and service activities, including a video scavenger hunt, glow bowling in Brookville and a lock-in. This group also participates in synodical and church-wide events such as the ELCA National Youth Gathering. Senior High LYO advisors are Art & Lori Keller and Jeff & Donna Bush.
The goals of Family Ministry are to bring families closer to Christ and to each other; create and sustain a family atmosphere at Christ Lutheran; generate enthusiasm for family focused activities and attracting new family members to our church. To achieve these goals, some of the activites of Family Ministry include include Allegheny Synod Lutheran Day at Lakemont Park and Altoona Curve game, Advent Enrichment Adventure, game night, movie night and other events as scheduled.
